CHRISTOPHER S. SPITERI

Chris’ practice focuses on business and corporate law, corporate governance, residential real estate, and debt recovery. Chris litigates contractual disputes, prepares contracts and agreements for partners, shareholders, and employers, organizes and restructures corporations and other business models, and transacts the purchase and sale of assets.

Chris is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and Dalhousie University Law School. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1996.

Chris has extensive experience with corporate governance. He is a graduate of the Rotman School of Business Director Education Program and is certified with the Institute of Corporate Directors. Chris served as a Director of Tarion Warranty Corporation (the Ontario New Home Warranty Program) for 10 years, during which time he was the Vice-Chair for 6 years and Chairman of the Board during his last year.

Chris was involved with Music and Beyond for more a decade, and was the President and Chair for nine years. Music and Beyond is a not for profit classical music festival in Ottawa, which helps bring young people and classical music together. Chris has co-chaired the Viennese Winter Ball and has helped foster partnerships with other local festivals.

Chris has extensive history with the community, most recently being a Director on the Board of the Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation. He was the Corporate Chair of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Light the Night Walk for two years and a Director on the Ottawa Humane Society Board of Directors. He is currently a member of the St. John Ambulance Federal District Council Board.

Chris served as a Chair of the Canada Pension Plan Review Tribunal for eight years, was active with the OCRT Panel Member Task Force on Disability and Private Insurance, and presented before the House of Commons Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

Chris is always active within his community.  While at the University of Ottawa, he was Vice-President, Academic of the Student Federation and a Director of the Ontario Federation of Students. At Dalhousie University, Chris was the Chairman of the Law Students Society for two years and, in his last year, Editor of the Weldon Times, the law school newspaper. Chris served as past Treasurer of the Thomas Moore Lawyers’ Guild and was President of a condominium corporation in Ottawa. Chris has been a guest lecturer at the University of Ottawa, School of Management, the Algonquin College Business School and at the County of Carleton Real Estate annual general meeting.

When Chris is not practicing law, he enjoys travelling with his family. He has coached local youth basketball teams and run five marathons and numerous half marathons.
